THE ALREADY / NOT YET
An Exhibition by Emily Jalinsky
On view from October 10 - November 6 2016
Please join us for an exhibition reception on
Saturday, October 15th from 5 - 7 PM at the cafe!
Emily’s recent work seeks to reveal the meditative act of mindfulness. Repetitive patterns and ceaseless arranging serve as a way to alleviate states of hopelessness and anxiety. Emily uses methods of centering and repetitive action to further the idea of finding stillness in any moment. The borders between inner and outer landscape, material and immaterial become intertwined. Lichen, a symbiotic and slow growing organism, is used as a symbol of resilience and continual growth, while patterns of gold and pools of water suggest an elusive and yet present spiritual expanse.
In her practice, Emily works with relief, silkscreen, and intaglio printing processes. Pieces may be stained with tea leaves, painted with watercolor, drawn on, embroidered, bound together; but always with a delicate, controlled sensibility. Her work moves between the worlds of print and mixed media, emphasizing the use of the multiple. Working on many pieces at a time, Emily continually combines smaller pieces together to create larger compositions including prints, assemblages, and installations.
