"In her quietly ferocious poems, Gemin reminds us again and again of the essential strangeness that lies within the domestic." David Wojahn Michael Walsh will read from his powerful first collection, Dirt Riddles, winner of the Miller Williams Poetry Prize. This work is literally rooted in the earth and in the world of animal husbandry. You can taste these poems about life on a family dairy farm in your mouth. In these lyrical poems we meet a closeted young man, his parents, their herd, and the other flora, fauna, and objects that populate his surreal garden. Michael Walsh grew up on a dairy farm in western Minnesota. He often writes about the queer and rural Midwest. His interests include animal husbandry, astrophysics, games, monsters, myths, quantum mechanics, restoration ecology, slow foods, and urban farming.
