Johnson’s solo exhibitions include Bull & Ram in New York, Threewalls in Chicago and the Contemporary Art Workshop, also in Chicago. Her work has been included in more than 60 group exhibitions in New York, Chicago, St. Louis, Miami, San Francisco, Houston, Los Angeles, London, and more. As a curator she has originated shows at the Knockdown Center and Regina Rex, both in New York, and at Swimming Pool Project Space, Chicago. Johnson has also been a Visiting Professor at Northern Illinois University and at Illinois State University. She was a co-founder of Regina Rex Gallery.

Recent studio work reflects Johnson’s parallel interest in hyper-local politics and housing justice issues relevant to her Brooklyn neighborhood.
