Lauren Redniss writes wonderful books, so wonderful, so different that you’d hardly call them books.  Filled with multi-paletted illustrations in many styles, punctuated with perfectly chosen period photographs, her works are more like museum exhibitions than books you’d find in a library.  Take my word for it, though, the literary world takes these lovely books very seriously as books. Radioactive:  Marie & Pierre Curie, a Tale of Love and Fallout was a finalist for last year’s National Book Award for Biography. Ms. Redniss is a marvelous writer and diligent researcher as well as an artist of rare talent.  This is not what is called a “graphic novel.”  This is not like anything else at all.  The paperback arrived the other day and has begun to sell at the ridiculously low price of $21.99.  Come down.  You need to see it.

“Absolutely dazzling. Radioactive is both vibrant history and a work of art.” — Richard Rhodes
